Long Island Food Not Bombs Thanksgiving Bonanza 2012

Hurricane Sandy will not stop us! Starting, November 17th and going on through November 24th, Long Island Food Not Bombs and Community Solidarity, Inc. will be holding their largest endeavor to date; it will include parties, Food Shares, copious amounts of decadent meals, the sharing of clothing, books and the organized efforts of hundreds of community members.

Hurricane Sandy Relief, Thanksgiving Blanket Share

On Monday, November 19th @ 5:30pm Long Island Food Not Bombs volunteers will be distributing blankets and sleeping bags to anyone that needs them in communities devastated by Hurricane Sandy. It's just like the spirit of the first Thanksgiving, but instead of sharing smallpox to further genocide we'll be sharing warmth to further solidarity and the Long Island relief effort.

So heres the deal - Many people don't realize that the day after Thanksgiving is the most wasteful day of the year. Think about all those pumpkin and apple pies your local grocery store has stocked up; would you believe that most stores just toss them out after Thanksgiving Day?

Update: The Long Island Food Not Bombs' Thanksgiving Bonanza has been incredible! We shared a vegan feast and over 57,000lbs of groceries with over 2,500 people on Sunday in Hempstead, and have continued the camaraderie with events all across Long Island over the past week.

Relief Effort Day 10: Call for Solidarity Caravan, this Friday!

We need your vehicles! Tomorrow, Friday, November 9th, 2012, we’ll be collecting over a hundred thousand pounds of relief supplies that we’ll then be distributing across Long Island. We know gas is difficult to come by, but burning it now will help keep your neighbors stay warm this weekend.
