Long Island School Supplies Drive! Help LIFNB share needed supplies this back-2-school season.
It’s back-to-school season, students need their school supplies, but for many Long Island families this can be a costly burden to overcome. Purchases like notebooks, backpacks, sneakers, etc… add up creating a heavy burden on many families struggling in this recession.
People may not realize that the average American family spends nearly $600 on getting their children ready for school. So, with that in mind, Long Island Food Not Bombs is asking for your help.
What we need is your help in collecting school supplies over the next few weeks.
The following is a list of items we need:
Notebooks (spiral & composition), backpacks, art supplies (markers, colored pencils, crayons, sketch pads, water colors, paint, chalk, clay and needed erasers), pens/pencils, loose leaf paper, graph paper, 3-ring binders, folders, compasses, rulers, lunch boxes, calculators, staplers, glue, glue sticks, safety scissors etc... Children’s clothing (sneakers, pants, shirts, socks, etc…)
Once you’ve got these items you can:
1. Drop them off at our donations box in Urban Coffee (located in 101 Broadway, Greenlawn, NY 11740).
2. Call our 24/7 hotline (631.223.4370) to arrange for us to pick them up at a location and time of your convenience.
3. Stop by any of our 5 weekly food share locations and join us in sharing them directly with families that could use them.
There are other ways you can help as well. You can spread the word about our school supplies drive or you can organize your family, neighbors, house of worship, etc… in creating a supporting drive; just email us if you need any ideas (LongIslandFoodNotBombs [at] gmail [dot] com)
Thank you for your time and support in back-to-school solidarity,
